Workshop For Adoptive Parents
From Separation to Integration: helping parents help their teens
Adolescence is a time of complex changes both internally and externally for adolescents as they transition from childhood to adulthood. For the adoptive parent, the challenge of guiding and facilitating this passage can be daunting and stressful. Some have likened the process to a second birth- at first the neonate was delivered into childhood; now the child needs to be delivered into adulthood.
The goal of this workshop is to help parents help their teens cope constructively with this sometime overwhelming process. As the child matures into adolescence his needs, understandings and interests change and parents need to attune themselves to and understand these changes to best help their teenager. The aim of the workshop is to supply pertinent information, develop insights and increase communication skills to achieve this goal.
The workshop format is conducted in a small group (maximum 10) setting which is conducive to group interaction and personal attentiveness. The length of the workshop is ninety minutes. There is no fee.
All donations are tax deductible and will go towards developing the NAAC 2007 Adoption Conference and a National Registry of Specialists in Adoption Counseling
